The Smithscript Shield is a Small Shield that can be found in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. It doesn’t do much in the way of blocking damage, but it makes for a solid parrying shield. More importantly, it comes with an Ash of War that allows you to hurl the shield at enemies Captain America style. Yeah, it’s pretty cool.
The Most Sought After Elden Ring Sword Has A Storied History
Here’s what you need to know about the Smithscript Shield and where to find it.
Smithscript Shield stats and features
The Smithscript Shield has a weight of 2.5 and requires the following stats to wield:
- STR – 10
- DEX – 15
- INT – 11
- FAI – 11
The weapon comes equipped with Ash of War: Discus Hurl. This Ash of War allows you to throw the shield at enemies to deal damage. Once you’ve thrown the shield, it will magically return to your hands moments later. It’s not likely to be the best form of damage in your kit, but it can make for a good supplementary ranged ability for melee builds.
The Smithscript Shield can be upgraded to +10 with Somber Smithing Stones.
Smithscript Shield item description
The Smithscript Sheild’s item description reads:
“Roundshield engraved with a smithscript. A throwing weapon created through the smithing arts. Can be thrown by performing the armament’s Skill.”
Where to find the Smithscript Shield
You can find the Smithscript Shield in Taylew’s Ruined Forge. This dungeon is located in the Scadu Altus and can be easily reached by heading just north of the Ancient Ruins Base Site of Grace.

When entering the dungeon, head down some stairs, then take a ladder down and jump over a gap. To your left will be a stone golem and the Smithscript Axe, if you’d like to grab those while you’re here.
Continuing onward, you’ll eventually need to jump onto a massive column hanging from the ceiling. On the other side from where you leapt is a platform with a slime enemy. If you jump over and defeat it, you can grab the Smithscript Greathammer, too.
Now, jump back to the column and walk all the way to the top. Jump onto the platform on the right and enter the door directly ahead of you. There are plenty of lava giants to content with in this room, so take them on one by one, aiming for the red crystal on their backs to do more damage.
When you’ve defeated everyone and feel safe doing so, make your way up the rubble on the right of the room (noting that there’s also a stone golem up here). When you get to the top of the rubble, you should see a corpse you can loot to get the Smithscript Shield.
