After two weeks away with Alex, my boys have returned home to Brooklyn! As soon as they walked in the door, they both began chatting at me simultaneously, which is my favorite thing. We also went on a Target run to get some “first-day-of-school drip,” as Anton called it, as well as sharpened pencils and apple-cider-scented body wash.
Did you ever see Dreaming Whilst Black? I missed the British comedy when it came out in 2021, and I’m glad to have finally stumbled across it. The six episodes follow Kwabena, a young Nigerian-British guy who wants to be a filmmaker but feels stuck in a dead-end recruiting job. It’s funny and satirical and shows the kind of micro-aggressions he faces daily. I inhaled the entire season in one day and look forward to season two.
We have a bunch of fruit in the fridge — plums, grapes, apples — and I’m thinking of making a monochromatic red fruit salad, maybe with vanilla ice cream. Have you made anything delicious lately?
I lost my beloved rain jacket while in Seattle (shakes fist!!), but thankfully a bunch of Rains jackets are on sale right now. Raincoats can feel heavy and sweaty, but these are lightweight and perfect for travel. The pale blue is pretty, and I also like the chic belted one and this waterproof belt bag, gahhh!
What are you into these days? Happy back-to-school season to those who celebrate!
P.S. More fun things, and five comedy scenes that make us laugh.
